This specimen was lot 34035 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Holland. Provincial Piefort 2/3 Gulden 1684 XF Details (Cleaned) NGC, Edge plain. A gently circulated representative of the very rare one-year type with the iconic designs by Drappentier, featuring on the obverse the Dutch maiden as Pallas and the rampant lion on the reverse." The three gulden (later called a rijksdaalder) was struck sporadically in the province of Holland starting in 1680. This variety, with the Dutch maid on the obverse and the lion in a beaded circle, was struck 1684 only and is rare. We don't know why this example is so underweight.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 63.64 g, 0.920 fine silver, this specimen 55.56 g, 41 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: cf. KM 66 (regular weight), Dav-A4953, Delm-1128a.
