Hesse in 1789, from Putzger's 1905 atlas

This specimen was struck in Hesse-Cassel for Landgrave Friedrich II (r. 1760-85). The type was issued 1763-67 and is scarce in nice condition. This specimen was lot 3091 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hessen-Kassel, Landgrafschaft, Friedrich II. 1760-1785 1/4 Reichstaler 1766. Kassel. Sehr schön. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, Frederick II, 1760-85, quarter thaler of 1766. Very fine.)"
