Steve Album sale 51, lot 2935

This specimen was lot 2935 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "HESSE-CASSEL: Friedrich II, 1760-1785, AR 1/2 thaler, 1766-FU, VF." This half thaler is omitted from the SCWC and Numista, so we presume it is rare. The legend, "XX.ST[ucke].EINE MARK FEIN.", indicated that it was struck to the convention standard.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Schütz-1853; Müller-2731, KM unlisted.
