Stack's Bowers 2022 NYINC sale, lot 7032

This specimen was lot 7032 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hannover. 2/3 Taler, 1827-C. George IV. NGC MS-63. A gorgeous example of the type, exhibiting sharp cartwheel luster, bold strike, and speckled russet toning that intensifies in the protected areas." The old electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg was annexed by Napoleon in 1807. At the Congress of Vienna, it was restored as the kingdom of Hannover and ruled by the British kings until 1837. This type was struck 1822-29 for king George IV. It is not recorded whether George IV ever set foot in his German domain.
