This specimen was lot 71155 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hannover. 16 Gute Groschen, 1829. George IV (of Great Britain). NGC MS-62. This entrancing minor offers robust, cartwheel luster and a subtle, alluring golden tone as one approaches the peripheries." The sixteen gute groschen was half a thaler; unusually for a minor coin, it was almost pure silver. It was issued for Hannover 1820-34. The denomination was terminated when the thaler was reduced from 23.54 g to 16.82 g. This particular type of 1822-30 is the most common. Hannover's connection with Great Britain was severed on the death of George's brother William IV. Victoria assumed the throne in Britain while her uncle took over in Hannover.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.77 g, 0.993 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-138.
