Sincona sale 83, lot 2568

This specimen was lot 2568 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,138 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1736, Clausthal. Feinsilber. Mit der Münzmeistersignatur CPS. Selten (Rare). NGC MS64. Feine Patina (Nicely toned)." The 12 mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-third thaler, which superseded it, was struck 1730 and 1736. Other issues of this denomination in 1736 include one with a leaping stallion reverse (KM 247) and with a wild man reverse (1736-IAB).
