Hannover 1735-IAB 2/3 thaler KM-229
This specimen was lot 74554 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1735-IAB. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. A lustrous, barely circulated example with light golden toning in the peripheries. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1730-43 along with KM 228 (leaping stallion reverse). This is the period of the introduction of the convention thaler, when the gulden slipped from two-thirds to half a thaler.
