Künker sale 386, lot 5180

This specimen was lot 5180 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €650 (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. Reichstaler 1703, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Ohne Randschrift. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. (electorate of Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, thaler of 1703, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines, without edge lettering. Fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This "leaping stallion" thaler was struck 1698-1705. The issues of 1698-1700 are catalogued as Dav-6654. Other thalers for 1703 include KM 20 (St. Andrew reverse) and KM 35 (wild man reverse).
