Künker sale 354, lot 5679

This specimen was lot 5679 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €160 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. 4 Pfennig 1705, Clausthal. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 23, Osnabrück 1992, Nr. 2869. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, four pfennig of 1705, Clausthal mint. Scarce in this quality, choice example, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1699-1715 while George was merely elector of Hannover. In 1714, he succeeded to the throne of Britain. Another four pfennig (KM 45) was struck with "LAND MUNZE" on the obverse.
