This specimen was lot 77 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €260 (about US$366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Austbeutetaler 1705 HB, Silver, GEORG LUDWIG 1698-1727, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LUNENBURG Clausthal mint. St. Andreas with cross. Rev. crowned coat of arms. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS XF45." This thaler was struck 1698-1705 while Georg Luswig was merely elector of Hannover. The issues of the seventeenth century are catalogued as Dav-6665. The initials HB stand for Heinrich Christian Bornhorst, Mint Master at Clausthal 1675-1711. George Ludwig was promoted to king of England on the death of his cousin Anne Stuart in 1714.
