This specimen was lot 24231 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IV gold Escudo 1789-NG-M, VF25 NGC, light original toning, scarce transitional type featuring the bust of Carlos III." This very rare type is noted for 1789-90 only. The next issue of escudos from Guatemala was in 1794.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold.
