Guatemala 1761-G P 2 reales
This specimen was lot 423 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA, Guatemala City, pillar 2 reales, Charles III, 1761 P. Bold XF details despite moderate surface corrosion, even gray color, rare mint for shipwreck. Recovered from El Cazador, sunk in 1784 in the Gulf of Mexico." Collectors would normally spurn a corroded example such as this but Guatemalan pillar two reales are too rare for one to be choosy. This type was struck 1761-71 and is much rarer than the SCWC indicates. The four and eight reales from this mint are more common than the smaller denominations.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 5.68 grams.
