Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 53838

This specimen was lot 53838 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 2 Reales, 1761-P V-Y. Potosi Mint. Charles III. NGC VF-30." This type was struck for Ferdinand VI through his entire reign. Assayer "V" or "VY" stamped coins 1760-73. Pillar coins were made at Potosi 1767-70 under the assayer "JR". The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728. Eight reales cobs were made in enormous quantities but many of the minors are scarce.
