Guatemala 1761-G P 8 reales
This specimen was lot 24414 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,938.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III Pillar 8 Reales 1761 G-P, XF45 NGC. An unusual grade for this very scarce or rare date. Superior to both the Amat and Patterson specimens and equivalent to the nice Haberthuer piece (SBC /1996, lot 2527). Ex. Ray Johnson collection (Freeman Craig 11/1982, lot 87 for $1,050). From The Isaac Rudman Collection of Guatemala Coins." While Guatemala pillar dollars are scarce compared to the issues of Mexico City or Potosi, they are available for a price. The four and eight reales from this mint are more common than the smaller denominations.
