This five new pence, or 1/20 of a pound, was introduced in 1968 as part of the decimal reform. It was struck to the same module as the superseded shilling, which had the same value, until 1992, when the module was reduced to 3.25 g. Collector proofs exist in silver, gold and platinum. The five pence was struck with this design 1998-2008.

Recorded mintage: 333,230,000 plus 43,513 proofs.

Specification: 3.25 g, copper-nickel, 18 mm diameter, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and Christopher Ironside.
