This specimen was lot 70757 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Sovereign, 1988. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO Secure Holder. Brilliant with hard mirror fields and frosted cameo devices." This type of 1985-97 was not made in large numbers but these were sold to investors and collectors and not issued for circulation. Cleaned and damaged specimens are likely ex-jewelry.
