Great Britain 1986 penny

This new penny, or 1/100 of a pound, was introduced in 1971 as part of the Great Britain decimal reform. It had no equivalent in the sterling coinage but was worth about two pence ha'penny. This type, issued 1985-92, featured an updated bust of the queen. It was converted to copper-plated steel in 1992. It was recently revised to show king Charles III (KM 2430) but we don't know if it is being struck for circulation.

Recorded mintage: 369,989,130 plus 104,597 proofs.

Specification: 3.56 g, bronze, 20.32 mm diameter.
