This two new pence, or 1/50 of a pound, was introduced in 1971 as part of the Great Britain decimal reform. It had no equivalent in the sterling coinage but was worth about five pence. This design was used 1985-92, whereupon it was converted to copper-plated steel in 1992.
Recorded mintage: 168,967,500 plus 104,597 proofs.
Specification: 7.12 g, bronze, 25.91 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Raphael David Maklouf and Christopher Ironside.
