Great Britain 1874-H farthing
This specimen was lot 34031 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria Proof Farthing 1874-H PR64 Red and Brown NGC, Heaton mint. A glorious Proof from the Heaton mint, featuring chestnut brown surfaces that are accented by coppery color and attractively styled design motifs. Scarcely offered in this near-gem condition and well-deserving of a premium bid." This type was introduced in 1860 with a slightly modified obverse used 1874-95. Numerous varieties exist, some rare. The Heaton mint contributed farthings, halfpence and pence in 1874-76 and 1881-82. Heaton was the sole producer of farthings in 1874.
