Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 712015
GB SB1019-72015r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72015 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1681. London Mint. Charles II. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. A charming example, offering gunmetal gray surfaces along with some peripheral cobalt. The wear is even and minimal and, while some typical haymarking is noted, it does not detract from this piece's beauty. Only one has been graded finer by PCGS. From the Regent Crest Collection." This type was struck 1674-84 in some numbers and is pretty reasonable in circulated condition but choice examples, as always, are expensive.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.01 g, 0.925 fine silver, 21 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-3382; KM-441.
