Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72017

This specimen was lot 72017 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1675. London Mint. Charles II. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. Pellet after CAROLVS. Attractive mahogany brown surfaces--with a seemingly imperceptible degree of slight handling--highlight this immensely pleasing piece, featuring wonderful luster as well. Some minor striking weakness is noted, though fairly consistent with the type. From the Regent Crest Collection." This type was struck 1672-75 and 1679 and accompanied a copper half penny. This example sold for one-fifth of the catalog value.
