Great Britain (1635-36) shilling
This specimen was lot 7194 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1635-36). London Mint; mm: crown. Charles I. PCGS AU-53. Group D, fourth bust, type 3a. Obverse: Crowned and mantled bust left, wearing ruffled collar; XII (mark of value) to right; Reverse: Garnished coat-of-arms. With original cabinet toning, this attractive issue has soft, even wear and serves as a highly attractive piece from the reign of Charles I. From the Runze Collection." The SCWC lists over forty different undated shillings for Charles I, a side effect of the Civil War. His reign presents the greatest challenge to numismatists.
