This specimen was lot 33768 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Charles I gold Crown ND (1635-1636) AU58 NGC, Tower mint, Crown mm. A brilliant example struck in gold and preserved at the cusp of Mint State, the bold legends framing central designs that reveal absolutely minimal wear. A very small flan crack is noted to the upper edge for the sake of accuracy." This gold crown (five shillings) was accompanied by a gold angel (Fr-245), unite (Fr-246) and double crown (Fr-247). Charles' conflicts with Parliament and his subsequent inability to raise funds cramped the production of gold.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 2.28 g.

Catalog reference: KM 139, S-2715.
