London Mint; mm: castle (over cross Calvary)/castle. Charles I. PCGS EF-45. Group 1, type 1b. Obverse: Charles, holding sword and reins, riding caparisoned horse trotting left; Reverse: Garnished square-topped coat-of-arms; Welsh plumes above. A fairly RARE and seldom-seen type, this elegant specimen features attractive gunmetal gray toning and an even strike throughout. Some hints of brilliance are also evident, especially in the more protected areas of the reverse. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection. Ex: F. B. Nightingale Collection (Glendining - 10/1951) Lot # 41. Ex: Capt. H. E. G. Paget Collection (Glendining, 9/1946). Ex: E. E. Yates Collection (purchased en-bloc by Baldwin, 1938). Ex: Sir Kenyon Vaughan-Morgan Collection (Sotheby's - 6/1935) Lot # 216."
