This specimen was lot 40628 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $3,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Genoa. Scudo, 1670-ISS. NGC AU Details--Mount Removed. Toned." The republic of Genoa simultaneously struck scudi stretti, scudo largi (shown here) and double scudi, which weighed 76 grams! This type is listed for 1649-1719 tho not struck every year. None were issued 1667-69 or 1671-75, for example.
