The first specimen was lot 1286 in Jean Elsen sale 114 (Brussels, September 2012) where it sold for €600 (about US$927 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"ITALIE, GENES, Dogi biennali (1528-1797), AR luigino, 1668, Droit: Tête janiforme. Revers: Ecu tenu par deux griffons. Très Rare. Très Beau. (Italy, republic of Genoa, biennial doges (1528-1797), silver luigino of 1668. Obverse: Janus head; reverse: arms supported by two griffon. Very rare, very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 2649 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[2] noted, "Italian States: Genoa. Gianuino, 1668. Crowned coat of arms between two griffins, below year. Reverse: Double head. NGC graded MS-61." The same specimen was lot 2163 in Goldberg sale 112 (Los Angeles, September 2019), where it sold for $1,320. This enigmatic coin is listed in the SCWC as a gianuino, the Genoese name for a luigino. It was intended for trade with Turkey.

Specification: 2.09 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, the first specimen 2,06 g.
