Frankfurt 1763-IOT 20 kreuzer KM-266
This specimen was lot 2097 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Frankfurt, Stadt, 20 Kreuzer 1763. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, twenty kreuzer of 1763. Rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
After being nearly shut down after 1717, the Frankfurt mint burst into action in the 1760's, issuing a variety of twenty kreuzers (KM 265, 266 (shown here) and 267). Other denominations included a 10 kreuzer (KM 216.2, KM 224), 30 kreuzer (KM 219), half thaler (KM 220.1, 220.2) and thaler (KM 221) for 1762-64.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.
Specification: 6.68 g, 0.583 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 6.59 g.
