Sincona sale 11, lot 862

This specimen was lot 862 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$3,714 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt am Main, Stadt Doppeldukat 1764. Auf die Wahl Josephs II. zum König. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, double ducat of 1764, on the coronation of Joseph I as king. Extremely fine.)"

This one year type, like most double ducats, is rare.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 6.95 g.
