Frankfurt 1764-IOT thaler Dav-2220
This specimen was lot 2098 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,313 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Frankfurt, Stadt, Taler 1764. Selten. Vorzüglich. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, thaler of 1764. Rare, Extremely fine, Magnificent condition.)"
After being nearly shut down after 1717, the Frankfurt mint burst into action in the 1760's, issuing a variety of thalers (Dav-2219, -2220, -2221, -2222, -2223). Other denominations included a 10 kreuzer (KM 216.2, KM 224), 20 kreuzer (KM 266), 30 kreuzer (KM 219) and half thaler (KM 220.1, 220.2) for 1762-64.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rather scarce.
