This specimen is a type struck at the Paris mint 1977-2001. It revives La Semeuse, the sower, who appeared on French silver two francs of 1898-1920. The 1989 is one of numerous dates more available from mint sets than from circulation. The type was struck for circulation 1977-83 and 1994-2000. It was demonetized in 2005.

Recorded mintage: 94,449.

Specification: 7.5 g, nickel, 26.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
