Sincona Auction 103, lot 489

This specimen was lot 489 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Königreich und Republik, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. Louis d'or à l'écu 1692 O, Riom. Réformation. Sehr selten. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold louis of the shield of 1692, Riom mint, reformed. Very rare. NGC VF30.)"

The 1692-O is a rare date of a common type. While edge reeding was introduced to the French mints about 1687, this is the first series to use it on a routine basis. Altho Droulers[2] reports a mintage figure for the "fn" (new blanks), none are known to exist.

Recorded mintage: 3,215 fn + unknown rf.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 405 and 406, KM 278.12, Gadoury 250 (R2), Fr-429.
