Sincona sale 54, lot 345

This specimen was lot 345 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,547 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Frankreich, konigreich, Louis XIV. 1643-1715. 1/2 Louis dor à la mèche courte 1644 A, Paris. Fast vorzüglich. Kleiner Randfehler. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, gold half louis of the short lock of 1644, Paris mint. About extremely fine, Minor edge fault.)"

This type was struck 1643-45, 1649-52, at Paris and Lyon only. Altho this is noted as the most common date, it is still very scarce.

Specification: 3.37 g, 0.917 fine, plain edge, this specimen 3.42 g.
