Jean Elsen sale 141, lot 1224

This specimen was lot 1224 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €600 (about US$795 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AR quarante-huitième d'écu à la mèche courte et au buste drapé, 1644A, Paris. D/ B. enfantin, l. et dr. à d. R/ Ecu de France couronné. Rare. Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, silver 1/48 écu of the short lock and draped bust of 1644, Paris mint. Obverse: laureate and draped infant bust right; obverse: crowned arms of France. Rare, Extremely Fine.)"

This piece is considered a pattern and is not listed in Droulers tho it turns up in auctions from time to time. If it had gone into production, it would have had a face value of 15 deniers tournois.
