The first specimen was lot 988 in Jean Elsen sale 137 (Brussels, June 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AR écu à la mèche courte, 1643A, Paris. Point initial. D/ B. enfantin, l., dr. et cuir. à d. Petite étoile en fin de légende. R/ Ecu de France couronné. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XIV, 1643-1715, silver écu of the short lock of 1643, Paris mint, initial dot. Obverse: laureate, draped and armored infant bust right, small star at end of legend; reverse: crowned arms of France. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 74677 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[3] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1643-A. Paris Mint. Louis XIV. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. Variety with rose above crown. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc. (9/2005) Lot # 12880." This type was struck 1643-45 at Paris and Lyon only.

Recorded mintage: 265,056 (rose) plus 206,634 (dot)[1].

Specification: 27.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-41 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin or Nicholas Briot, this specimen 27,28 g.
