This specimen was lot 22115 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV Louis d'Or 1643-A AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Paris mint. The inaugural year of Louis the Great's long tenure, this monarch's Louis d'Or are less common than those still bearing the likeness of Louis XIII of the same date." This louis d'or à la mèche courte is among the more available louis of Louis XIV, being struck 1643-56. Only Lyon struck this type after 1645.

Recorded mintage: 193,600, a common date.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 28-30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
