Flanders (1467-77) 2 stuiver
This specimen was lot 1030 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €160 (about US$206 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Karel de Stoute (1467-1477), AR dubbele stuiver, z.j. (1467-1474), Brugge. Vz/ Bourgondisch wapenschild. Kz/ Gebloemd kruis met in het hart een lelie. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (county of Flanders, Charles the Rash, 1467-77, undated silver double stuiver, circa 1467-74, Bruges mint. Obverse: Burgundian arms; reverse: floriate cross with a lily in the center. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
The death of Charles the Rash in battle in 1477 ended the Burgundian dynasty. His daughter Maria's marriage to Maximilian of Austria began Hapsburg rule in the Low Countries.
