Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1445

This specimen was lot 1445 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €110 (about US$157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles le Téméraire (1467-1477), AR double patard, 1468-1474, Louvain. D/ Ecu de Bourgogne. R/ Croix fleuronnée, un lion en coeur. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles the Rash, 1467-77, undated silver double patard, Louvain mint. Obverse: arms of Burgundy; reverse: floriate cross with a lion at the center. Very Fine.)"

Charles the Rash was killed in battle in 1477, leaving a daughter, Mary. Her marriage to Maximilian of Austria brought the Hapsburgs to Brabant.
