Brabant (1468-74) mite
This specimen was lot 990 in Jean Elsen sale 153 (Brussels, December 2022), where it sold for €220 (about US$278 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Charles le Téméraire (1467-1477), billon mite de Brabant, 1468-1474, Louvain. D/ Armes de Bourgogne en plein champ. R/ + MOI-ETA- NOA- LOV Croix pattée coupant la légende, chargée de l'écu de Louvain. Très rare. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles the Bold, 1467-77, undated billon mite of Brabant, Louvain mint. Obverse: arms of Burgundy in a plain field; reverse: cross pattée cutting the legend, charged with the shield of Louvain. Very rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"
Roberts comments, "The mite of Flanders was valued at 1/24 gros or 1/8 of an English penny.... The mite of Brabant was valued at only 1/36 gros, making its 4-mite piece 1/3 of a penny."
