England (1580-81) angel Fr-206
This specimen was lot 20101 in Ponterio sale 176 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,406. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Elizabeth I, 1558-1603. Angel, ND (1580-81). Latin (Long) Cross. St. Michael spearing dragon. Rv. Ship with shield at center. A beautiful type coin that is well struck with full legends on both sides of a wonderfully round flan. Lovely natural patina with subdued luster. Some old scratches under the left wing are noted, but they are not readily noticeable. Very Fine Plus. Ex: Spink, 1983." This angel was tariffed at six shillings and eight pence (one third of a pound). It was part of the fifth issue.
