This specimen was lot 1086 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$3,835 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, Elizabeth I. 1558-1603. 1/4 Angel n. d. (1583), Tower Mint. Sixth issue. Mintmark bell. Very rare. NGC AU58." This quarter angel was tariffed at one shilling and eight pence (one twelfth of a pound). The auctioneers call this a sixth issue but we side with Spink in calling it a fifth issue.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.29 g, 0.992 fine gold, this specimen is 1.23 g.
