This specimen was struck for El Salvador by the Royal Mint of London 1970-77. Paradoxically, this coin has such a low catalog value that it is difficult to find. Dealers do not find it worthwhile to stock such items. This coin bears the portrait of José Matias Delgado, hero of the struggle for independence from Guatemala. The next issue of twenty-five centavos (KM 157) was in 1986, in a copper-nickel alloy.
Recorded mintage: 22.400,000.
Specification: nickel, 2.5 g, 17.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 139.
