This specimen was lot 3444 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $969.37. The catalog description[1] noted, "Egypt. 5 Pounds, 1980. Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." There was a concurrent issue of gold pound (KM 509), gold ten pounds (KM 519), silver pound (KM 508) and copper-nickel 10 piastres (KM 504). Despite all the turmoil in the Middle East in the subsequent decades, Egypt and Israel are still at peace.
Recorded mintage: 2,375 plus 125 proofs.
Specification: 26 g, 0.875 fine gold, 0.7267 troy oz AGW.
