This specimen was lot 20867 in Heritage sale 3002 (Long Beach, September 2008), where it sold for $1,150. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 250 Pesos 1979, Proof 67 Deep Cameo PCGS, marking the visit of Pope John Paul II." Numerous countries, some only nominally Catholic, have reaped profits by selling coins commemorating the visit of the Pope.

Recorded mintage: 1000 plus 3000 proofs.

Specification: 31.1 g, 0.900 fine gold, .900 troy oz AGW.
