The specimen shown is from a type struck in Mexico City for the Dominican Republic 1983-87. It is part of a series celebrating human rights including the five and twenty-five centavos and half and one peso. The second specimen was lot 1104 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, struck at the Mexico City mint, off-metal proof 10 centavos in silver, 1984, Duarte, rare, NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo. Mirror cameo with faint speckling on bust, rare silver version of a one-year proof issue from the Mexico City mint (regular is copper-nickel) with a reported mintage of just 100 pieces, featuring the bust of folk hero Juan Pablo Duarte."

Recorded mintage: 15,000,000 plus 100 proofs in silver.

Specification: copper nickel, plain edge. The proofs are 2.50 g, 0.900 fine silver, 17.88 mm diameter.
