This specimen was lot 23488 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,173.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Proof 500 Pesos 1988, Proof 69 DCAM PCGS, a dazzling coin struck for the discovery of America by Columbus." This type is not pictured in the SCWC and the drab design explains the reason why.
Recorded mintage: 2,600.
