Dominican Republic 1979 25 pesos
This specimen was lot 72331 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. 25 Pesos, ND (1979). NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Weight: Struck to commemorate the visit of Pope John Paul II. An attractive large-size silver commemorative with strong frost over the designs and beautifully reflective fields. Several small toning spots that are scattered over both sides are noted for accuracy's sake." Numerous countries, some only nominally Catholic, have reaped profits by selling coins commemorating the visit of the Pope. This NCLT accompanied gold 100 and 250 pesos.
