Denmark 1871-CS 4 skilling rigsmont
This specimen was lot 70487 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling Rigsmont, 1871-CS. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IX. NGC MS-63. This original looking example displays bold devices with light attractive patina." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This type was struck 1869-74 for Christian IX (1863-1906) as king of Denmark. It is the last of its denomination prior to the decimal reform of 1874.
