Steve Album sale 51, lot 2860

This specimen was lot 2860 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK: Christian IX, 1863-1906, BI 4 skilling rigsmont, 1870, a fantastic example, NGC graded MS66." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This type is listed for 1869-74 and is common. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone.
