Steve Album sale 27, lot 1285
Denmark Alb27-1285r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1285 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK: Frederik V, 1746-1766, AR krone (4 mark), 1747. modified bust, FRIDERICVS V DEI GRATIA // crown, small heart divides date below, DAN NOR VAN GOT REX, NGC graded EF40, R." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. Until 1813, 1 ducat = 2 speciedaler = 12 mark = 192 skilling Danske. After the reform of 1813, 1 frederiks d'or = 5 speciedaler = 10 rigsbankdaler = 960 rigsbankskilling. In 1854, the speciedaler was dropped but the remaining denominations were unchanged. In 1874, all the old denominations were terminated in favor of 1 krone = 100 øre, which system is still in use, tho the krone is no longer silver. This type is listed for 1747-48. It is a little small and a little low in silver to be a true crown but Davenport thought it worth including so we have included it as well.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 18.00 g, 0.833 fine silver, .482 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-560. Dav-1300A.
