Denmark 1671-GK krone Dav-3633
This specimen was lot 10262 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €336 (about US$350). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Krone, 1671. Copenhagen Mint. Christian V. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Johan G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale-1918)." Frederick III died in 1670 and all the coinage was redesigned for his successor Christian V. This type was struck 1671-73, 1677 and 1680 with an ornate monogram; a similar krone with a plain monogram and no mintmaster's initials (KM 343/Dav-3633a) was struck 1671-74. This example shows a conspicuous 1671/0 overdate. The Glückstadt mint also struck kroner for Christian V (Dav-3678); these have the date on the left. One krone was four mark or two-thirds speciedaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.671 fine silver, 40.7 mm diameter.
